About me- Shannon Collum, RMT
At Home in duncan
I graduated as a massage therapist from the MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy in Alberta in 2004. I owned my own clinic in Edmonton and also did on-site massage at different workplaces. I was the regular in-house therapist for Intuit, a major software company. I am also a certified doula and infant massage instructor.
I have worked with a wide range of people and conditions through the years – from infants to seniors and everyone in between. Some of the specialties and therapies that I have worked with include:
- Swedish massage (also known as relaxation or wellness massage)
- Therapeutic massage
- Pre- and post-natal massage
- Trigger point release

Between 2011 and 2015, I owned a business providing transportation, support, and companionship to seniors and other adults in Kamloops. This was a rewarding experience, and I really enjoyed the work. So when I returned to massage, it felt natural to focus my practice on treating the changing needs of the aging body. This focus has also prompted me to begin post-grad training for a certificate in manual lymphatic drainage.
Changes in the profession and in massage education since 2004 led me to upgrade my original qualifications. In 2015-16, I re-took my senior year at MH Vicars, graduating with honours—again! I am currently registered as an RMT in both Newfoundland and BC.
MH Vicars School was, by this time, teaching the national curriculum developed by BC and the other provinces where massage is regulated. Retaking the senior year of the MH Vicars program was not only a refresher, it exposed me to some exciting new-to-me skills and theory.
